This is a set of Akagi "Clear Mahjong Tiles" (Washizu Mahjong Tiles), which were sold exclusively at a certain large electronics retailer.
They were only available for a few years, from around 2005 to 2007, and sold only while stocks lasted. A distinctive feature is the included black yakitori (grilled chicken) mark with Akagi's face on it. No other Washizu Mahjong tile sets include this Akagi yakitori mark. For me, this alone makes me want this mahjong set desperately.
While the "Mini Clear Mahjong Tiles" are readily available on flea market sites, this larger size "Clear Mahjong Tile" set is quite rare.
Because of the limited release, I was told by a store employee that "once the stock runs out, that's it; there will be no re-release."
It has not ever been used, so there is absolutely no shrink wrap damage or deterioration of the tiles.
