Vintage brass metal cigarette case or wallet

This is a well made, vintage brass case of some sort. It used to have intricate etching on it, but it's mostly been worn away. I couldn't find any markings, but it seems like there would be some on it - there's an out-of-place square on the outside where there isn't any of the decorative etching.. maybe that's where a monogram would've gone, but it seems too small for that. There's an elastic band on the inside and it doesn't really stretch anymore, which is to be expected due to its age. The piece has minor dents, but still closes securely. I've had this case so long I don't remember where I got it, it's been tucked away in an old jewelry box for years.. it's a cool collectors item, and still has life in it!
